Back in May, I wrote about Livable Trafalgar, the large development being proposed at Burnhamthorpe Road East and Trafalgar Road in North Oakville.
There has now been an important update.
The Town of Oakville has scheduled a statutory public meeting for Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
Where Does the Proposal Stand Now?
Livable Trafalgar is proposed for 340 Burnhamthorpe Road East and 3437 Trafalgar Road, at the southeast corner of Burnhamthorpe Road East and Trafalgar Road.
According to the Town’s latest notice, the proposal includes 6,420 residential units in 27 buildings, including 10 towers ranging from 18 to 30 storeys.
The plans also include approximately 14,475 square metres of commercial space, a new public street network and 0.5 hectares of public open space.
The development is proposed across 12 development blocks and would be completed in seven phases.
It’s a very large proposal, but it is important to remember that it is still just that: a proposal.
It has not been approved.
What Is Happening on September 8?
The September 8 meeting is part of the Town’s planning process.
The applicant will have an opportunity to present the proposal and members of the public can provide comments.
The Town specifically states that no recommendation to approve or deny the applications will be made at this meeting.
Residents can participate in person at Oakville Town Hall or online.
There Is Much More Information Available Now
One thing that has changed since I first wrote about Livable Trafalgar in May is the amount of information now available through the Town’s planning file.
There are architectural and landscape plans, transportation information, environmental and servicing reports, wind and shadow studies, tree preservation information, heritage documents and other technical reports available for the public to review.
These documents have been submitted as part of the development application. That does not necessarily mean the Town agrees with or has accepted the conclusions contained in them.
An Interesting Part of the Property’s History
There is also a heritage component to this application that I found interesting.
Both properties involved in the proposal are listed on the Town of Oakville Heritage Register.
A Heritage Impact Assessment submitted as part of the application identifies a building dating to approximately the 1840s at 340 Burnhamthorpe Road East and a mid-19th-century farmhouse at 3437 Trafalgar Road.
The consultant who prepared the assessment concluded that neither property is a candidate for designation under the Ontario Heritage Act. The proposal would remove the existing buildings.
That conclusion comes from the heritage consultant retained for the application. It is not my own assessment of the properties.
Why I’m Following This One
When 6,420 homes are being proposed in one location, I think it’s worth paying attention.
What interests me now isn’t another rendering of what the development might eventually look like. I want to see what happens as the proposal works its way through the Town’s planning process.
Does the proposal change? What concerns are raised? What does the Town ask for? What do residents have to say?
Those are the updates that will actually tell us something.
North Oakville continues to grow, and developments of this size have the potential to change the area considerably over time. Whether you already live here or you’re considering buying here, I think it’s useful to know what is being proposed around you.
The next date to watch is Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Thank you for reading.
